Black Path Overlaps Another Black Path Gives White
|
|
|
| I'd like to know if there is a way of inverting black to white at the
points where the underlying or overlying paths are black.
E.g.
If i have a black rectangle laying down horizontally.
And a 2pt line running through it and outside of it.
I'd like that line to be white as it runs through the Rectangle.
Clipping mask maybe, or blending mode.
I can't seem to make it happen, without creating a white line over the
rectangle. Anyone have any ideas?
regards,

PathFinder's Exclude might give you what you need, if you're working
with black shapes. (if you don't expand, you can still edit later)
But if you are working with color shapes, try a combo of Difference and
Multiply blending modes.
To reverse-out: dupe the foremost object or layer twice, applying
Difference to one instance and Multiply to the second. You may have to
edit the contrast afterward. (Note that when complete you should only
have 3 layers. From top to bottom: 1: Difference Shape. 2: Multiply
Shape. 3: Main underlying work)
More layers, the less visible the effect.
Painter's Reverse-Out blending mode can do this auto-magically, but I
have never been able to replicate it exactly with Illustrator.
