But if I then open that PDF in Acrobat and do a Save As or a Reduce File
Size, it gets trimmed down . . . ???

(And the trimmed down PDF can still be opened and edited further in
Illustrator if needed? -- though some of the earlier Illustrator edits
may no longer be undoable or reversible?)
