| I am running into a problem. I am creating pdfs from an AI
illustration and I am running into the issue that the pdf file is
extremely large. Is there anything I can do to cut the size down, yet
not have the picture become pixelated. I am currently set my output
resolution to 100dpi. and I am not using the Printer's Default Screen.
I am not using Acrobat to create the pdfs. And I will not be able to.
Is there anyway to do it with what I have.

What platform? Which version of Illustrator? What is the difference in
size between the original AI file and the PDF?
At least for Windows (I believe for Mac also) there are PDF makers.
Google on that one.
Make sure your AI file is "clean", no scattered lines and selection points.

Also, do you have imported raster images? Have you used raster effects?

| if you choose when creating the PDF to preserve Illustrator capabilities,
high definition images that you might use in your file are embedded in the
PDF, even if you request a downsampling or a compression for your PDF..
may be you could try to suppress this option, depending of the version of
Illustrator you use this might have also an effect on the text structure but
if you don't intend to edit your PDFs (or if you use Illustrtaor versions
anterior to CS) this could work.
If you use Acrobat 7 Professionnal you might also use the optimization tool
in this software.
