Not the best way, but...
Start Photoshop. Open the file in Illustrator. Select the text. Copy,
paste (as pixels) into a new Photoshop document. This supposes that the
text has already been converted to outline in Illustrator, because if
you don't have the proper font installed, you'll get the default
substitute font instead. C'est la vie.
If all you've got is Photoshop, tell tell the Illustrator artist to
place the text on a seperate layer and either export the file in
Photoshop format- with layers and at the proper resolution- or simply
save the text with no elements behind it as Illustrator format, and then
open the file in Photoshop. Barring all that, you'll have to play with
selections on a 'floating' layer and manually clean-up to remove the
white.
The file's format are interchangeable, and will open in either
platform's Adobe application.
