What is the best way to convert from DXF to AI?

I've tried opening the DXF file, but I just get the
text of the DXF file.

When I type DXF in the help file search box I
get "no results found".

I have no idea, but have you tried placing instead of opening?

Sorry, AFAIK, there's no opening or import of DXF in Illustrator. Not
natively, anyway. You'll need a third-party plugin. There's several
available that I know exist, though you'll have to Google for details.
Or you can use an application that knows how to convert between the
formats- Google again. :)

Oddly enough, Streamline would export DXF. so Adobe knows how to support
the format.

Belay the earlier message. I was thinking of The Latest And The Greatest
DXF facing the Earliest and Bestest Illustrator, and not the
antediluvian versions of DXF. There's a cutoff at DXV version 14.

You +might+ be able to diddle the DXF file into a format that
Illustrator will chew on. The "standard" format is anything but standard
with some applications, with the preamble causing problems in
identifying the file as DXF in many cases. Again, details are a Google
away, as I can't seem to get my brain to work properly at the moment and
recall the details. However, this might help point you in the right
direction.

Thanks for the ideas. The job is a temporary one and I have

Hell, if Corel can do it why can't Adobe?

I opened four dxf-files from a customer of mine today, they worked
prefectly, so yes, you should be able to open dxf-files. I opened mine
on CS1

I have CS2, have they dropped DXF support from CS1?

I have Illustrator 9.02, and used to open (and save) DXF files for use
in Bryce. I can't imagine they'd simply drop it for no good reason...

Nor I, but I can't find what I need to do to open it.
It comes in as the text of the file rather than
the graphic entites of the file.

Just a wild guess, I have really no idea, but what about this:

And how about trying to play with your settings in Illustrator,
