Author illustrator serial?

I got a copy of illustrator 9 recently. I go to load it up and it acts
as if its an upgrade. I've got the serial for it but as it begins to
install it searches for an old illustrator in my comp. Is there a way
around this? A way to trick it into thinking i have an old version or
another serial perhaps? Possibly an older version that someone will
trade for my photoshop 5.5 with serial? Any help or suggestions would be
appreciated.
