Author help with importing transparency and layers into flash

Hello, I'm down to the wire and just learning how to use flash. So far I miss Maya and Final cut pro. I posted in the Illustrator section because I am trying to get a layered file into flash from Illustrator. I am better in photoshop but I want the vector graphics. I have tried to flatten the transparency in Illustrator, and I lose the transparency. I have saved the file as an eps, ai, jpg, tif and the transparency gets flattened or I end up with literally 500 layers importing, it is horrible. I only have five layers in the file to begin with. Layers aren't importing right with any format . I am making a little animated movie and need to import the arms, legs seperately so I have one layered file for body parts. I created another file with the solid unmoving trunk of the body as it has effects on it that flash hates. The layered file loses layers in transit or gains 200 and the body trunk becomes flattened.
Please help me!
Thanks
