I want to upgrade an old version of Illustrator (5.0) so I can have the
ability to do 3D extrusion. Which version was this feature added in?

I can't answer your question but I still have a version 8.0 installed
and it does not have that feature.

You need Adobe CS for that.

Couldn't you (legally) only upgrade to the latest version anyway?
People can't resell old upgrades, so I would think an upgrade to the
latest release would be the only thing you could do?

The 3D functions were added to Illustrator CS2, and possible CS1 but I
am not sure as I upgraded from 10 to CS2.
If any one remembers Adobe Dimensions, this is the type of 3D you have
access to. I use dimensions for a lot of packaging and was very happy to
have this added to CS2 but am still learning how to use it in the way I
did with Dimensions.

In Dimensions I made quick rendering of my package designs for clients
using the same artwork I used for the final file for the printer. It was
quick and easy to use.

Thanks
Michael

Thank you. Am I correct in presuming that a 3D Illustrator object can
be imported into After Effects and animated?

Someone else'll have to chime in on that as I don't use after effects.
