Author help preventing output problems

Many of you may recall past problems I've had with ads created AI 9.0.2 and
imported into QXP 4.11 as EPS. I'm hoping you can help me prevent any
problems with this new ad.

I deleted the background of a photo in PS and created shadows; saved as PSD.
I then placed/embedded the PSD with layers as objects into AI. I selected
the shadows and underlying parts of the AI ad and Flattened Transparency.
Otherwise the ad has simple, basic text and gradients, blacks are set to
overprint, with no other transparencies... I think. I didn't flatten
transparency of the photo itself, and in Document Info it's Type:
Transparent CMYK, which is different, ofcourse, from applying transparency.
Must I flatten it as well? Do you foresee any other problems?
imagessence.com/imageviewer/TW_dogTVad2.jpg
(Not great design, I realize, it's a production ad.)

It will be saved as EPS, imported into a QXP 4.11 layout, then the layout
will be saved to composite postscript file; finally to be distilled to PDF
(v 1.3). For whatever unknown reason, the PDF will be imported into InDesign
by the printer to send to seps. (Don't ask me why, I don't know and have no
control over that end.)

2400dpi printer resolution, 175lpi, 350 raster resolution, all sliders set
to highest quality.

Thanks,
inez

FIRST!!!!!!
Whats up with the design, it is great for the purpose it
has. Stop underestimating yourself, Good job! Where did you
find that pic LOL

Then.......no idea what that "Type: Transparent CMYK" means,
but I would not worry if I were you.

What is PDF version 1,3??? There is the only problem I can
see happening, you are not in charge of that though.

You're too kind. It's an OK ad for the purpose. Great little photo, huh? I
know someone, somewhere had gotten it from getty images; but unfortunately,
when it was sent to me it was small and very low resolution (under 72ppi). I
can only pray it doesn't come out terrible. It had a nasty, dirty looking
background, and the dog's feet wer cropped off, so I deleted the background
and added the feet.

That's how the image is listed in Document Info/Embedded Images.

1.3 :(

If I were in charge of anything a different printer would be printing this
stuff;) I ain't getting paid for prepress. When I get this all figured out
by trial and error, then I get to inform them how to create PDF files they
can print. They don't know how.

I need drugs and a beer, so it must be your breakfast/coffee time, and it's
already Friday for you. Happy Friday morning:)

Oops 72 DPI huh, must have been a downloadable model from
getty's..........are you allowed to use those by the way? I
am afraid though that could be your killing factor Inez, is
it newspaper print?

The comma was a typo. Never heard of PDF 1.3.

It is Friday afternoon, and I am off on Friday afternoon, so
getting ready for Amsterdam, first time since I am back in
this weird country. So Amsterdam, you get prepared too! Get
your terras chairs inside and cover the pool tables! It will
be raining Steggy's and Dogs.

I must say I fear for the 72DPI (-) image Inez.......:(
Especially because it seems you upscaled it.
Anyhow, come over to Holland, probably got a job for you in
a studio in September:)

I didn't upscale it, but I think whoever handled it had since it was below
72ppi. I unsampled smaller, added some noise, guassian blur, unsharpened,
etc. with slight improvement. I did all I could do with it. I've warned my
client and her ad client (who is my friend and the source of the image) that
I can't guarantee the image production. I also warned her that the image may
be illegal, but it's not my ad, not my theft, not my publication. Probably
doesn't matter because it's only a 5,000 ditribution in a suburban area, but
I don't like it. Besides, I like even my production type work to come at as
best possible.

Wow! I'm ready for Amsterdam too! Have a tropical storm headed our way, but
I think it's going well east of us, maybe toward Jeff (Wizard). So early in
the season... I'm completely unprepared, ofcourse. Atleast we have a large
enough vehicle to hold all my critters if we have to get out of Dodge;)
