hello, i am a bit lacking in Adobe Ill. knowledge, but can someone tell me how to cut out bits of an image and drop them into another image.

i thought that i could just draw a rectangle, copy then paste in a new window but dont seem to be able to achieve this.

i have a multi-colour schematic drawing of a man that i created in AI and i want to use specific parts in another illustration (ie the heart/femur etc.). it is for an academic journal.
