Can anyone suggest the best program for producing universal vector graphics
that can be imported into most other graphics software/dtp software??

If i produced an eps in corel draw, could this be imported into any other
software ok?

I produced an eps in illustrator, but when i imported it into corel draw it
wqas all pixelated and distorted, it actually looked like a bitmap!!:(

any advice would be extremely helpful:)

thanks

What version of Corel Draw and what version of Illustrator?
Check Corel Draw to see what is the latest version of Illustrator it will
import.
If you want an EPS, I'd backsave the Illustrator file to AI8 and then save as
an EPS.

Corel was crap when I quit using it. But I can't say the
same for Canvas. The Canvas guys were trying things
way before anyone else. Does Canvas suck now?
Freehand sucks because the company that owns it
won't do a decent upgrade path.

Canvas is pretty good for technical oriented stuff. Got a free copy of
Canvas 7 in the March issue of Computer Arts magazine (the disc even allows
for a legal upgrade to Canvas 9). Pretty good deal. The CD even came with
over 2000 URW fonts (although many of the fonts are knockoffs of well known
typefaces; but they're digitized pretty well).

There really is NO single "best" vector producing app on the market. I use
Illustrator, Freehand and even CorelDRAW (gasp!). They all have their
strengths and weaknesses. I will probably never be a fanboy of a single
vector drawing app especially when there are many cases where each of the
players has their own thing they do better than anyone else.

Corel's color handling is terrible. However, it has better object creation
tools, a much larger working space and much faster handling of on screen
graphics. Illustrator and Freehand are extremely slow by comparison. Very
often, I'll build up a lot of complex art in Corel --and then take it over
to Illustrator or Freehand to tweak the colors. I wind up getting the job
done much faster and better than I would if I had stupidly stuck to only one
app.

Freehand could be so much better. It pisses me off that Macromedia only
seems willing pursue webby stuff. They let Fontographer die. If there's
any one draw app I'll stop using, Freehand will be the first to go.

Thanks for you thoughts. Isn't it strange that Illustrator won't
allow underlining? One poster said it was my fault for wanting
to use underlining when bold and parentheses were so much
better. There is a $25 plug-in from a non Adobe source and
PageMaker and Freehand underline. It seems like "The" font
company can't underline its own fonts.

I appreciate the link for a free Canvas tryout.
