Author dashed line stroke-change orientation?

Good morning all-I've been up since 3:00 am, so pls don't yell at me if I
have missed the obvious :-)

Assume the following: A capital san serif letter B, stroked with dashed
lines set at .02-.01.................. I would like for the dashed lines to
run parallel to the letter form. How can I make that happen and pls don't
tell me that I have to manually make them myself--gads.

Thanks for any help.

Convert the B to outlines, choose Object > Path > Offset Path and choose an
appropriate measurement for the offset (how many points do you want it to be
from the edge of the letter?). Recolor the new, bigger B and set its fill to
None. Then grab that new outlined B and dash the stroke. Sometimes the
corners get a little funky so you might have to adjust your spacing and
corners settings.

Dead solid perfect--now the dashes are running the way I want them to. I
know about coverting to outlines and offset path--I had offset path, but I
forgot to convert to outlines. Duh--thanks so much.
