Hi. I had a company design some logos for me and they are holding me over a
barrel. I want to remove the white background from the logos they designed
for me and they want to charge me a lot of money after we already paid them
a lot. We have illustrator ten and the files were created in illustrator 10.
Is there a simple explanation of how I can remove the white background so
that I can put them on black backgrounds etc. I can e-mail you the files if
need be. I really appreciate the instructions or the help. Thanks, Asher
Kalem

Well, then take your written contract into small claims court.
It's simple.

If you don't have a written contact and don't have it in writing that the
designer transferred to you the copyright for the logo, the designer owns the
copyright to the logo and you can't change what they gave you. At least under
US law.
You have to work with the original designer on this.

If you did not buy the total rights to the logo then you have to go back to
the artist to get changes.
