| Can anyone tell me.. In Photoshop, when using the pen tool I can hold
down CTRL and I get the 'white arrow' select toll so that I can move
anchor points around before continuing to draw my path. This seems to be
missing from Illustrator. Can anyone tell me if there is a shortcut as I
have tried all sorts and can't find one!
happy new year from

| Deke McClelland offers the following from his book
To move a point while still creating it--press and hold the spacebar.
To adjust a point already created, press the Ctrl key or Cmd key
If the arrow tool comes up instead of the direct selection tool when trying
to modify--press Ctrl+Tab (Cmd+Tab on the Mac, or Cntrl-Tab if Cmd-Tab gets
taken over by the MacOS and jumps you between your open applications.

In Illustrator Cmd/Ctrl always switches you to the most recently used
selection tool. So before going to the pen tool, switch to the direct
selection tool (white arrow).
For the most effective use of the modifiers, many Illustrator users
switch to the direct selection tool first thing when starting
Illustrator up, and never use the others directly. You can then always
get to the direct selection tool with cmd/ctrl and the group selection
tool with cmd/ctrl-option/alt. There's rarely a need to use the regular
selection tool except to use bounding box editing.
