Author Colour mis-match.... part the thousandth!

OK. I made an ICC profile and claibrated my monitor, loaded it into
Photohsop and , *bingo!*, for once the colours i print are resonably
close to what I see on screen.
However, I open the same ICC profile in Illustrator and the colours
are.... very much darker!! THerefore unusable [reds in my artwork are
printing out as a dark burgundy for example]..
Does this mean that I will always have to take my artwork into Photoshop
to print?? [ which is fine but I seem to get an error when I try and
drag my artwork across which in theory shouold be problem-free????]

lordy! problems, problems... please help someone?
