| I have problem with generating pdf-files from Illustrator 10. The problem is
that the pdf-files created are to big. From a presentation with one graphic
image of 25 Kb and 3 columns with text, I get a pdf-file that is about 1 Mb!
If the text is converted to raster, the size is about 100Kb but it doesn't
look good on print. I'm not an expert in Illustrator, but I was expecting
the file to be bigger with text as raster. Any suggestions?

| You should be able to fine tune your PDF export options to get what you
want. To what extent depends on which version of Acrobat you have.

Anders,
If you are embedding the fonts, you could easily reach 1 MB without trying
too hard. Make sure you are using high percentage subsets.
You can also uncheck preserve Illustrator editing capabilities. That makes
it smaller.
Remember to choose your compression options in the PDF save dialog! Every
bit helps.
As to which option produces the smaller file, that depends on some stuff,
but I think
generally, yes, with a good amount of text in the document rasterizing is
bigger.
But the rasterized text should look pretty good when printed. It's the
screen display that suffers. =)
