| Is there a shortcut key to toggle align to artboard on and off.

You can create some in AI9, too. Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts. Select Menu Commands.
Go to the one you want and then click on the line on the right side and you can
type in the key combination you want.

| I am using v10 and there is tha ability to customize the shortcuts, however,
I am not able to find the item which is a sub-item in the align pallet. I
tried to create an action using insert menu item but I can't use that menu.
Up the creek I think.

Sadly, i don't think there is a shortcut for any of the align commands.
If you can't find it in the drop down menus chances are you won't get a
shortcut to it...
The only workaround is to create an action. Click on 'new action' then
select two objects on the stage and click the alignment option that you
want. Then hit stop. I have asigned left, center and right alignments to
F2-F4 hotkeys... not perfect, but better than no shortcut at all...
Downside is, you will have to make an action for eahc toggled state,
whether to artboard or not... so u will end up with at least 6 hotkeys...
