FreeHand allows you to set the 'pick distance,' how close you have to
click to a control point or handle in order to select it. Does
Illustrator have such a setting? I'm finding it hard to select control
handles, even at maximum magnification.

I find it easier on complex illustrations to go to outline mode to find
the anchor point, select it there and then go back to preview mode.

No it doesn't, unless Paul knows something. I don't know which version
you are using though. It may be something they have introduced in CS but
all previous versions are the same tiny handles, it drives me mad and
there have been posts about it before. I think Adobe has a system where
people can suggest new or tweaked features (somebody correct me if I am
wrong), I don't know how much notice they take with the suggestions but
it is somewhere on the site.
