Author Blur and High Pass

Hi,
I am trying to get a handle on the relationship between the high pass
filter and the Gaussian blur filter. My understanding is that if I
subtract the Gaussian blur of an image from the original image at
radius so-and-so then that should result in a high pass version of
that image at the same radius. Is that correct? When I try to do this
using the calculations>subtract this is not what I get. Can someone
explain what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,
Ron
