Photoshop 7.0, running on WinXP.

Some files, and for seemingly no reason, can't be Saved (or moved /
renamed / deleted). Only Save-as works, under a new name.

The warning message - "Could not save... because the file is already in use
or was left open".

On the next system reboot, the offending file is normally ok to save,
rename, move or delete. However, I have a few files that are still
locked. Also, in the folder they don't appear as a thumbnail (like other
files).

Am I stuck with these files for life?

Give this free tool a try: http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ (the
download link is about halfway down on the page).

I've been using it for upwards of a year now, and it's been a great help
with stubborn Photoshop files, unlocking video files that Explorer
decides to generate thumbnails for when I try to move them, and pretty
much anything else that needs to be unlocked.
