Points to Pixel -- Please help!

| Can anyone here explain how to set up Photoshop CS to use pixels
instead of points in the character palette? Is this even possible with
photoshop? When I set the font size, I want it to be 10 px instead of
10 pt. I've looked around the Web and can't find instructions to do
this, although i've seen tuts advising to set photoshop up like this
when working with bitmap/pixel fonts.
thanks in advance!

| I don't think that it is possible, because ultimately, the resolution
of the image will determine the pixel size of the font.
For example, if there were such a thing as 10px font, and you were
working with an image that has a resolution of 300 ppi (for print),
first off, you would not be able to see the text because it would be so
small, and it would no longer be 10 pixels if the user saved it for the
web at 72 ppi.
The font/pixel relationship, as far as I know is limited to the Web,
and Photoshop is not.

Set the document resolution to be 72ppi, then, as there are 72 points in an
inch, 1px=1pt.
Or type px as the unit when you type in the text size - Phoroshop will
convert it to the size in points.

does that hold true for 96 ppi monitors or does 72 always give one inch?
or is it 96 to an inch on diff screens??

Completely and utterly ignore the resolution of the monitor: it's the
document's resolution that is of concern because we want a certain number of
pixels. I don't think many people go to the effort of actually adjusting the
hsize and vsize of a monitor to match anything in particular; as long as the
pixels have the correct aspect ratio to avoid distorting the image, it
doesn't matter. It's too awkward to put a rule up to a monitor to measure
things with any sort of accuracy (better than about 1/8 inch).
As I wrote, there are 72 (computer, not typesetter's) points to an inch, so
if the document's resolution is also 72ppi, then each pixel will correspond
to one point, and vice versa.
Does that make sense?
