Author What is the relationship patterns have to textures?

Hi,
I have seen pattern and texture used synonymously in the context of
Photoshop writings and they are managed together in the 'Preset
Manager' but are not accessible together in the
'Filter'>'Texture' dialogues. Are Textures a kind of Pattern?
Are textures and patterns constructed differently? Can any pattern be
used as or converted to a texture?

Thanks,
Ron

I think I see - textures abstract the pattern's value while
ignoring color to control things like brush flow control. Is that
correct? If that is true then why don't patterns show up in the
filters dialouegs - like 'Glass' or 'Rough Pastels'?

Thanks,
Ron
