Author Lost Tool Pointers

My tool pointers (the little "magic wand" and cropping "square" (and
no doubt other tool pointers) are gone, replaced by a small
"crosshair" pointer.
How can I get them back?

Try the Caps Lock key

Congratulations you are the 7 millionth person to ask that question in NG.

yes cap lock key will switch brush cursor's appearance
you can change to the default you prefer in preferences

another funny thing that kept happening to me was the letters disappearing
as I was typing any edits, this is corrected by using the INSERT key. Guess
we are sometimes hitting these keys without realizing ....
