Can't attach images to email
|
|

| I've just had to rebuild my computer. I'm using the old hard drive and I
had to reinstall/repair Windows XP and download all of the patches and
upgrades again.
I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 2002 which used to work just fine. Now,
however, when I attempt to attach an image to email I get the following
Adobe Photoshop Elements error message:
It is necessary to log on or establish an e-mail account within your
mail program before you
can attach to e-mail.
Outlook Express is my email program and works fine. Any ideas about what I
can do to make Photoshop function again?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

| Try saving you image to your desktop or another folder and from email select
that location for the image.

| Hi Mike,
In OE, Tools, Options, Security, there is a box titled "Do not allow
attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus". If
you have just rebuilt, this box will be ticked by default. It needs
unticking or you will receive attachments and not be able to open them.
Could it be stopping you sending them as well?
Regards,
Geoff.

| Thanks for the suggestion, Geoff, but it didn't work, I'm afraid.

| You installed the Service Pack 2 upgrade, didn't you. It is a nightmare for
graphics people and most that I know have opted NOT to install it in their
graphics computers. Microsoft decided that it was possible to send viruses
in photos so they wrote SP2 to restrict transmission of photos and other
graphics (I hate over-regulation of my life by bureaucrats). There are some
setting changes and ways to get around some of it, but not installing SP2 is
the best method.

| You're right, Charley. But the Frustrating thing is that it worked just
fine with SP2 installed before I replaced my CPU/mother board/ etc. So,
what's the problem now? I ask myself without any answers.....

DO not even consider NOT using SP2, it has all the fixes for everything
else. All you have to do is change your internet preferences which are
designed to protect computer noobs.

| I believe in SP2 and wouldn't operate without it. LOL I had to look up
"noobs".

I found this possible fix on Google:
Uninstall "Security Update for Windows XP (KB911567)" via Add/Remove
Programs and reboot.
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/917288/en-us
You will need to click on the "Show Updates" box in Add/Remove programs.

| Thanks Mike but I've done that. It isn't listed but doing a search
unearthed KB911567 on my computer. I don't know if it's installed or not
but since it's not listed and it was a valid patch at one time I'm led to
believe it's installed but just doesn't show up. Is that possible? And I'm
back to "how do I get rid of it?".
Thanks much.

| Yahooo! Got it! I checked out
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;en-us;Q306098 and had to
edit my register, adding the DllPath string which was missing. After that,
both Word and Photoshop worked just as advertised! Happiness! Thanks all
for your help and support.
