Cut and paste between layers (PS6)
|
|
|
| Hi,
I'm trying to cut and paste part of an image between one layer and another.
Everytime I try to paste, it creates a new layer. How can I paste into an
existing image?
The reason I want to do this is that I have spent a long time creating a
layer mask. I forgot to set up the image before i created the mask so now
I'm trying to copy paste the image into the layer.
Jay.

confused
OK after pasting (it always makes a new layer) use LAYER>Merge down to
combine with the underneath one or merge visible, if you want
or duplicate the masked layer and throw out just the mask not the image?

Jay,
You cannot do directly what you wish to do. Any Paste will create a new Layer.
However, once that has been done, you can go to the Layers Palette Options >
in the upper right-hand corner, click it, and from the drop-down, choose one
of the following: Merge Down, Merge Visible, or Flatten. If you have more than
one Layer, be careful with the latter two, making sure that is what you wish
to do. If your Layers are many, and you wish to combine several, just uncheck
the eyeball of any that you do not wish to be effected, then, with them
invisible, use Merge Visible.

Switch off all other layers (eye) then use 'merge visable' from the Layer
menu. Switch layers back on.

| Thanks everyone for your replies. Merge down did the job.
Cheers, Jay.
