| I'm trying to make a 24 or 32 bit PNG with transparency.
Things are great when I create the artwork using 8 or 16 bit - but
PhotoShop doesn't offer a 24 bit, and when I convert to a 32 bit, the
artwork flattens and transparency is impossible. It it possible to
have a 24 or 32 bit PNG with transparency?

When you Save for Web there is a PNG-24 option that has transparency.
When I Save As PNG, though I can't select a bit-depth (PS 6.0.1), the
background remains transparent when reopened.

That 24 bit with transparency is actually a 32 bit PNG.
