printing jpegs with filenames on

| i, novice photoshop user here. (7.0) Does anyone know if it's
possible to get photoshop to print out a batch (eg a folderful) of jpeg
images and print their filenames (eg canon_1011.jpg) actually ON the
image somewhere? I know that there is a caption option, but I am using
a mitsubishi dye-sub printer, and the caption does not print out at all
(unless I reduce scaling to 50%)
- just the image.
If I amend the image to print the filename on it (simply using the text
tool, then printing) it works ok, but I need a way to automatically do
it, if at all possible. In truth, it doesn't need to be photoshop that
does it, anything will do!!
any ideas anyone?
cheers

There's a javascript or two on the Adobe Studio Exchange that will do it.

| Try Irfanview (it's free and very useful for this sort of thing)
http://www.irfanview.com/
Select Batch conversion/rename from file menu, navigate to the images you
want to include, select them and add individually or use 'add all'
Then go to advanced options, in the bottom right corner tick add overlay
text, go to settings and you can add virtually what you like - use the $F
symbol to add the file name!! but I suggest you experiment with just one
image to start with as you will need to set the coordinates of where you
want the text and the colour & size etc.,
May sound complicated, but I would imagine there is no simpler way to do
this!!
(whilst you are in there you can alter lots of other settings if you wish!
size, format, rotation etc etc.

JpegSizer will prepare baches of files with captions, ready for printing,
very nicely. It will:
1. Let you choose all the usual font characteristics
2. Let you apply automatic text smoothing (anit-aliasing) for a much
cleaner-looking caption
3. Let you choose between 3 caption styles: a caption with or without a
background color; or a watermark with an intensity that you specify.
4. Insert filenames and many other variables in the caption.
5. Automatically adjust the type size when needed so that long captions
don't fall off the edges of small images.
6. Place the caption where you want on the images
You can add borders at the same time, if you wish.

| ok, I have tried all the above with the following comments.
file/automate/contact sheet II (metamorph suggestion) - this puts the
caption underneath the image, which as I said before, is not where I
need it. I need it printed ON the image.
Have not tried the adobe studio exchange, (edjh suggestion) as I am
hopeless with scripts.
file/print with preview/labels (suggestion from blah (?!) ) puts the
caption above the image, so is no use.
Irfanview (suggestion from HarryLimey) is WAY too complicated but as it
works like jpegsizer (see below) by creating new images which can then
be printed, it's not what I want. It looks a powerful tool, but boy is
it complicated.
Jpegsizer (suggested by Peter) is pretty neat, but is designed to
recreate images in a separate folder, which then have to be printed
somehow. It's not what I want to have to do. Thanks anyway.
So far, epson photoquicker is the nearest i've got to what I want, and
its fiddly and by no means perfect. It looks like I'm stuck with it
though..... unless anyone knows better!
