Odd... you post so much info about the project itself yet zero about
compensation. How do you think that will work for you? BTW 12x12
pixel? LOL!

those are the usual sizes for software icons or buttons.

Unless you mean bullets... Anything smaller than the 32x32 would be almost
completely illegible at standard screen resolution. You sure?

yes i am sure. very small software icons and the sort of
graphic-interface buttons are often 16x16.
its actually pretty challenging work, to get something to look "good"
at such a reduced size. You have to have a feel for it, thats for
sure. I suck at it and I hate it.

Look at the web icons (favicons). They are 16x16 and can be very clear.

Okay okay :)
As you can see from the return address, I'm more a print specialist than a
web-head... It just seems awfully tiny to me, but then I'm used to doing
hi-res posters and signage. :)

| I'm very interested in the project. Please email me more information
regarding color scheme, icon representation, compensation and time
frame.

Actually, they did ask you to state your price. So, that is not "zero
about compensation."
What I find more odd is that they want the images in JPG. With files
this tiny it is importatnt that you control every single pixel. Even
the smallest JPG compression-induced artifact would potentially spoil
the appearance. I'd want to do this kind of project as an indexed
color file or an uncompressed format such as TIF. That is, of course,
if I wanted to do it. As howldog commented elsewhere in the thread, I
also find it tedious and I'm terrible at it.

| Hi Tom,
I only asked for JPG's because I didn't know any better. It is
important to me to be able to have transparent backgrounds so the
images don't always appear square. I've worked with JPG's before and
know they can do this, but I haven't worked with other formats other
than GIF. I'm happy to try to work with whatever format. Thanks for
the tip to go with TIF or another uncompressed format!
Best regards,
Mike

JPEGS cannot have transparency.

Not on this planet.

You just posted that 12 x 12 was the standard size, now you change
that by over 80%? That IS a different story.

Yes, this guys request isn't all that unreasonable.
Anything that small intended for the web should probably be gifs, though.
