Author Curvemeister color correction challenge
Mike Russell

2004-09-15, 7:14 pm

The first Curvemeister challenge has arrived. This is your chance to try
your hand at color correcting an image, comparing results with others.
http://www.curvemeister.com/Challenge/
..
Color corrections may be made using any tools or software you wish,
including, but not limited to, straight Photoshop or using the curvemeister
demo plugin.

If you're a beginner, there's no better way to learn than by fixing an image
yourself. If you're more advanced, you may still learn something, and in
any case perhaps your results will be helpful to others.

For the time being there will be no judging or prizes, just the chance to
learn, and the glory of having your work posted for comparison afterwards.

I'm looking forward to participation from some of you. Let's see your
stuff!

Just downloaded the demo Mike

I can see the immediate attraction of obtaining good results at 3 clicks

In terms of productivity it must save $s and $s and $s

Please don't do anything rash like putting the price up whatever you do

Uh yeah, and promotion for your plugin.

Are these images going to be specifically designed to make
your software look like God's gift to digital photography?

Now why didn't I think of that? Sheer marketing genius.

The challenge is free, the images are real (straight out of the camera) and
the challenge does not require Curvemeister to participate. In fact, why
not do the challenge without Curvemeister, and show us what you can do?

> Are these images going to be specifically designed to make

Not really, though it's understandable why you might think that. Why not
submit an image of your own and I'll add it as a challenge?

> Now why didn't I think of that? Sheer marketing genius.

The photoshop group is relatively small from a marketing standpoint, and
there is enough turmoil here that any overt product promotion is likely to
be a wash. I like color correction, especially curves. It's important, and
I think this is a fun way to get people to think about it.

Hi Rick!

Even if it is true what you say, then Mike does really deserve all
attention, as he always helps people for free. The time should come
for someone to sell his expertise. If you browse his website, you will
find interesting FREE downloads. I have to say that I could manually
do better than the plug-in he wrote in SOME aspects. However, merely
downloading the demo version, will show both beginner and pro how a
person like Curvemeister, who dedicated his time to CURVES, thinks!

Curves is one of the most intriguing topics in color correction, and a
plug-in to do it automatically will be highly beneficial for
on-the-fly manipulation. I hope to hear Chris Cox commenting on this
plug-in.
