Computer Graphics with Photoshop - Elements 2.0 won't install

Elements 2.0 won't install

I got a copy of this with a new Epson 2400 scanner. I installed it on
my desktop machine with no problem, but I can't install it on my
laptop. They are both running Windows XP.

I get to the installation screen and click either "Installation" or
"Elements 2,0", either of which should start the install. The cursor
sits for a few seconds with the hourglass displayed, then the window
just closes and nothing happens.

Just a guess; do you have an antivirus program running? Try disabling it
before installing.

On the desktop machine, which installed successfully, there was no
virus software, yet Elements warned me about turning it off before it
proceeded to the install.

On the laptop, I'm running Norton. Element gave me no warning, so I
didn't think about it. After your suggestion, I disabled Norton, but
Element still won't go.

I don't see any way to shut Norton off completely. I tried closing it
from the task list and it wouldn't close.

To prevent it interfering you need to disable auto-protect in Norton.
Right click the Norton AV icon in the system tray. Select disable
auto-protect.

Check the CD visually for any scratches or smears. Look in the Event log
for any errors. Run disk check on the CD to see if it has any problems.

Well, this is odd. After numerous failed attempts, with Norton
disabled, I rebooted, disabled Norton again, and the installation ran
fine. I'm guessing that the first time the installation failed, before
I had disabled Norton, something got screwed up and stayed screwed up
until I rebooted.
