| Having just received Harald Heim's 'Plug in news'
I found this link to Leadtools, which allows you to download this latest
Photoshop plugin, Leadtools state they are giving this product away as they
wish to encourage its use!

This is a blurb I took from their website - By the way you have to go
through the full shopping cart-checkout procedure before they send the
download link and serial number -
"JPEG 2000 provides high compression with image quality superior to all
existing standard encoding techniques. This high compression and quality
performance is due to the adaptation of wavelet transforms. Wavelet
transforms are mathematical formulas that represent complex structures in
the image, thereby compressing an extremely large amount of image data into
a relatively small amount of compressed data. This compression technique
allows applications to save compressed images with higher compression ratios
and better image quality as compared to any other software currently in
production."
Two further matters
1. I have downloaded but not yet tried the product
2. I do hope I don't get abused for spamming, I can assure you that I don't
wish to offend anyone, in fact if anyone is offended, all I can say to them
is
"Bollocks to you!"

thing? Sounds like they are collecting credit card information for something
that is free. Very suspicious!

I've never checked. Due to it's non-support by web browsers and digital
cameras, I cannot conceive of a use for JPEG2000.

Well, if they are collection credit card info, sure. Might just be set up
with a cart system for their own convenience when they have a pay product
and doesn't need a card yet.

They don't ask for credit card details, but they do ask for everything
else!! - the only thing that you must supply correctly however is the email
address!!
PS does not give you the option to save in the two new jpeg file formats of
..J2K and JP2 (that I can see anyway)- Obviously it will only be of any use
if it becomes a standard format.
I could see where it would be useful for images on websites, it would
possibly mean better images or smaller file sizes?

For lower compression factors, you won't see much (if any) difference
between the original and the JPEG2000 version. For very high compression
rates, you'd better stick to the old JPEG...
I think JPEG2000 is great, but as stated before: no digicam or webbrowser is
supporting it, so nobody will use it.
The only thing where it is supported is in Acrobat 6 (also the reader).
