Author Stretching lasso with Wacom tablet

At focus this year I watched a Wacom rep lasso an object with a Graphire 3
tablet. He then proceeded to 'nudge' the edges of the lasso to increase the
area it covered.

He was using Photoshop Elements 2.

I can't seem to get the thing to do this in either PS5, 7 or Elements 1.0

Is this only a feature of PS Elements 2 or have I:

i) Not set the thing up correctly

ii) Not installed a vital piece of software such as a plug in?

Si.

Are you sure he wasn't using the Pen tool (a path in other words) or
Transform Selection? Unless Elements lasso is far different from
Photoshop's, which I doubt, it's not a normal feature.

Or maybe I'm not understanding your description.

I watched him roughly lasso a flower - he then tidied up the edges by
nudging the lasso in and out - by pushing at the 'marching ants'...

Are you sure he was "pushing at" the selection, or might he have been
adding (and subtracting) small regions to (and from) it?

He quite clearly pushed outwards to enlarge the selection and pushed inwards
to make it smaller. He was giving one to one sessions so I should have had
on one myself.

Check Wacom's site to see if it's in the Tips section.
http://www.wacom.com/tips/index.cfm?category=Photoshop
And make sure you've installed the latest driver as well as PenTools, a free
plug in from Wacom. Get it in Support at the same place you get the latest
driver.

The only thing that comes to mind is putting the lasso tool in ADD mode
(either by holding a modifier key down, or by click once on the
appropriate symbol in the options bar across the top of the drawing
window afetr selecting the lasso tool.

Think I have the answer...

http://www.adobe.co.uk/digitalimag/...2mask/main.html

It wasn't a lasso he was using, but the selection brush. The second set of
images show how it is done.

I can seem to replicate this in PS, other than adding tor or subtracting
from a selection. Which doesn't appear to be as fluid.

Ah. This looks like an implementation of Quickmask. I don't think
Photoshop has the Selection Brush as yet. Looks interesting though.

That's pretty cool. Sort of a shortcut to the the quickmask approach.

How about this. He may have lassoed the selection, then converted the
selection to a path, using the "Make Work Path" button at the bottom of the
Paths palette (or a function key tied to an action), used the direct
selection tool to drag the path control points around, then converted back
to a selection, using the "Load Selection from Path" button (or a function
key).

After reading the rest of this thread, I think it's most likely the
selection brush. Cool tool.
