I recently upgraded from Windows ME to XP Pro and from Photoshop 7 to CS.
How do I get my keystroke shortcuts to work in CS that I had working in 7.
Thank you

If your CS is a legal upgrade, you may have a bad keyboard driver.

Actually buying Photoshop CS would be a good place to start.

I think he maybe referring to changing the keyboard shortcuts in CS to
the ones he used in Photoshop 7.

I just assumed that if he was upgrading his OS, that he might have missed a
driver update or 2- that's the most common cause for a legit upgrade of PSCS
to fumble the keyboard shortcuts. Forgetting to update drivers in an OS
change is pretty common, too. When I upgraded to XP it took a while to get
all the newest drivers for my
peripherals sorted out.

For sure it's a guess, but I've been using Photoshop since V4 and following
this NG for several years and never *once* heard of anybody having problems
with the keyboard shortcuts until the bad crack of CS.

So far everyone who posted with this problem (that I've seen anyway) has
admitted they had a pirated version.

Why would so many keyboards suddenly start to have a problem? It's not like
it's a complicated driver. Does it seem likely that the only people seeing
problems are using CS and not V7 or earlier?

Take a look at the top issues. 2 out of 10

Can you read JP?
Those a Mac OSx problems. Not Windows. There doesn't seem to be the piracy
levels with Macs as there is with Windows.

Interesting link, but I don't think it answers the question. One is for the
"Function Keys", which is a different issue. The one that may be applicable is
titled "Keyboard shortcuts don't work ..." but reading the blurb says "If
you've defined custom keyboard shortcuts using Mac OS X v10.3 (Panther)
Keyboard Shortcut preferences, you may experience unexpected results ..."

The posts I've seen about the keyboard shortcut problems were simple things
like holding down cntrl-space-click to zoom in or spacebar to get the Hand
tool, not for 'custom keyboard shortcuts'.

Also the Adobe 'fix' was to simply "choose Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts, and
redefine the desired shortcuts", which is totally different than telling
someone they need a new keyboard driver. I doubt redefining their custom
shortcuts will fix the problems of the guys who can't do the basics like
zooming.

Sorry, wrong link. Try this one.

There IS a legitimate problem that some people, are having.
Logitech cordless keyboards, some Dell's, etc..(Dell, I'm told,
buys some of their keyboards from Logitech) I happen to know that
if you call Adobe tech support (after they verify your registration) they
will tell you to check the keyboard drivers. Happened to a colleague using
an Dell PC running XP with a Logitech cordless mouse/keyboard combo.

Took a carload of undeserved abuse around the office about being a pirate
first, tho.

While I'm aware of the crack issue, the attitude here gets on my nerves
sometimes. The assumption that people are guilty until proven innocent
is tiresome. Admittedly, the fact that this question comes up every freaking
day is also tiresome. As much as I wish the long-standing denizens here
would lighten up a little, I also wish that folks who come here looking for
help would read a few days worth of messages before posting a question
that's been answered every day for three months.

I'm a curious person. Since I could not find any mention of this anywhere on
the Adobe website, except for Mac OSX issue, I borrowed a copy of CS from a
friend (legit, upgrade version, but me borrowing it was probably not, but
hey, it's just for a test) and tried to reproduce the problem. I use a
cordless Logitech keyboard and installed 4 different drivers versions that I
had, from window default to the latest Logitech Itouch, and no joy, the
keyboard shortcut always worked. I'm not saying that the problem doesn't
exist, it simply must be an extremely rare occurence under very special
condition and totally unrelated to the amount of post we've seen on this NG.

Honestly, which do you think is more accurate.

1. A person spends $700 on Photoshop, and $169 on the CS upgrade, but
can't be bothered to upgrade from Windows ME. When they have a problem,
instead of accessing the Adobe support forums, or contacting Adobe, they
come here because the information will be more useful.

2. Pirate.

All I see there is people whining that CS doesn't work. I see no mention of
a cure, or that the keyboard drivers are at fault. Got another link?

Possibly because there is no Activation on the Mac?

Pirates can't read? That's OS-X, not WindoZe.

JP Kabala

2004-01-28, 2:28 am

Read the first one--- He says he called Adobe, **they*** told him it was a
driver issue, contacted Dell, they told him there was no new driver,
etc.....

Having a friend who was told the exact same thing, I tend to believe it. My
wireless mouse from Logitech buggered up some stuff on my laptop when I
tried to install it there-- took 4 phone calls and 6 e-mails to get it
straightened out. (but that's a story for another day)

Hell, I don't know, maybe it was a faith cure, the laying on of hands or FM,
but uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers they sent him from Logitech
fixed his problem.

Tell you what... I'll never answer another question on this topic (I'm bored
to stupefaction with it anyway) if you guys will at least try to give folks
the benefit of the doubt once in a while.

Everyone on the planet (except you) is not a pirate. There are 1 or 2 nice
people who have problems sometimes. You might accidentally be talking to one
of them.
