Author question on "Photoshop eps" format - HELP - URGENT

Hi,

I created a logo and some text by using Photoshop 7.0 (PC) and it contains
transparent background. I try to import this "file" to QuarkXpress 5.0 (PC
as well) and lay it on top to another solid color background, which created
in QuarkXpress, however the "file" becomes a WHITE background. When I print
it out, there is a WHITE BOX around my logo.

My question is...

1. I saved into "Photoshop eps" format. Does eps support transparent? How
comes it turns into white background in QuarkXpress?

2. I can't use "Runaround" feature in QuarkXpress, because there are some
fine print. Is there any other way to solve my problem, please suggest.

3. What is the other file format can support transparent in QuarkXpress? And
what is the difference between Photoshop eps format, Photoshop DCS 1.0 eps
and Photoshop DCS 2.0 eps?

Thanks so much.

Right before I start Photoshop is not for making logos, I am not saying
you shouldn't but Illustrator is the program for that.

Anyway to your question, did you try tiff. If you use illustrator and
save as a vector eps then you should not have that trouble with the
white background.

You already made a mistake. Photoshop is the wrong tool for this. You need a
vector program like Illustrator.

Not in EPS format, it doesn't. EPS doesn't support Photoshop-style
transparency; it supports clipping paths instead. To make part of an EPS
transparent, you use the Pen tool to make a path around the part which should
be opaque, then you save the path as a clipping path.

....and even if you put a clipping path around it, it still won't trap correctly
when you go to run it on press. Use the right tool for the job. Make your logo
in Illustrator.

Correct. You must either use a clipping path or use a vector illustration
program.
