Author X3 Image Slicer Not Working

What am I doing wrong with the Image Slicing tool in Corel Photo-Paint X3?
It's not creating the slices correctly, and the result is a jumbled mess.

Please detail your *exact steps* so people can help you troubleshoot.

I was preparing a detailed step-by-step report of what I was doing,
including screen shots, and I was using a SIMPLE .jpeg image instead of my
bigger image that you can see here: http://www.tonywhitaker.com (BTW - I
gave up on Corel and bought Namo Web Editor which sliced up my image just
fine).

Here's what I've been doing in Corel Photopaint:

I open an image.

I click on the Image Slicing Tool.

A set of image slicing tools appears horizontally at the top left corner
above the image.
I select alternately the horizontal and vertical slicing tools to draw a
grid on the image.

I notice that green masking appears over portions of the image as I do this,
and the green areas do not match the grid pattern I'm drawing.

When I'm finished slicing my image, I save it.
I select Export for Web.

A dialog box pops up in which "HTML and Images", "Slices", and "Display in
Browser" are checked by default.
I select a directory to save the results in, and use the default "Images"
folder for storing the images.

I click Save, and Photopaint generates HTML code and slices the image up
into the Images folder.

It also automatically displays the results in IE7.

IT WORKED WITH THE SIMPLE IMAGE!!!!

Is there a size limit with the Image Slicing Tool? The image I was trying to
slice that you see on my home page is 1588 x 2087 pixels. It still doesn't
work for the big image. The slices come out all wrong (they don't match the
grid blocks), and they aren't displayed in the right locations.

Perhaps I'm just drawing a grid pattern that's too complex?

ack, well, you might want to rethink using frames. I don't know that I can
find a justifiable reason these days to use them.

Well, you select either a horizontal or vertical slice tool, click ONCE
where you want a slice to be.
Let's say you do some vertical slices and they go top to bottom. You then
select a horizontal slice tool... if you click once it will just do a slice
to the first vertical slice mark it sees. If you hold it down and drag, you
can place it along the entire width. If the slices don't line up exactly
where you want them to be, use the Slice Selector tool and drag the slice
line to where ever you want it to be. Personally, I use guidelines to first
layout how I want something to slice up, then put in the slices.

that's certainly possible. For one, that page is pretty messed up. No one
does backround images of that size anymore, and very few places use frames
anymore. The navigation is what most people would call "mystery meat"
navigation. There's nothing compelling me to mouse-over anything. Nothing
that says "hey, even though it's not obvious, i'm a link somewhere". And
having an image that size is not very user-friendly. It's a lot for someone
to download (byte-wise).
