Author Layer effects

In Corel photo 12 is there an equivalent to layer effects of Photoshop CS2?
For example is there a way to apply a glow to a layer. There are ways of
applying an effect to a selection that is defined. What I am describing is
simlar to this but if you chang the layer the effect is updated. This is
not as dynamic as applying it to a layer.

Another question that is similar but different. If you enter text, can you
edit the words, not the pixels. It appears that if you add a drop shadow to
text. it converts the text to pixels so you can't correct spelling without
reapplying the effects.

I chose to take a Photoshop class as a way to better learn Corel photo. But
I am finding many shortcomings, some in Photoshop, most in Corel.

Thanks for any suggestions.

not sure I follow you here, Robert. If I apply a "glow" to a floating object
(which is the same thing as a layer), If I modify the object, the glow would
automatically update to the new shape. How is that not being dynamic?

Of course you can - it sounds like you're not entering text as a new object
but flattening it to another object/layer. This is a setting on the Property
Bar that you just need to toggle.

that's not entirely logical. It's like taking a class in Quark to learn
InDesign.. Different apps, different take(s) on tools, different way to
achieve similar things.

What I mean by "dynamic" update is: lets say you have a layer that has an
object that is rectangular, and you change it to circular. The way I have
applied drop shadow in Corel is, it changes the pixels of that layer. One
way that Photoshop dose this is apply a function to that layer. The change
from rectangle to circle is automaticly applied the shadow to the new shape.
I am not sure if I just don't have the settings right or it dose not have
"layer funtions"

I understand that the two program are different, but they are so similar.
All the name and locations have been changed. It is a good way to break out
of old habits and look at things from a different perspective. I have been
using corel for the past 10 years (mainly corel Draw), and it is good to
consider the compitition and not be so entrenched in your "best" way. The
other reason I took the Photoshop class is there is not a Corel photo class
offered localy.
