Does anyone have any experience with godaddy.com, either as a web host or as
a domain registrar?

As a domain registrar they are very good - no experience of their
hosting service. Check google groups maybe?

I had one situation I would like to share:

I posted a message that GoBaddy declared spam. They offered two
choices, one get a moderator to send them a message saying my post
wasn't spam, or pay about $200/domain/complaint. There was no
moderator, and when I asked for who complained, no reply. (which gave
me the idea GoBaddy was actually cruising the NGs). I sent GoBaddy
the URL to the NG's FAQ and showed exactly how my post wasn't spam,
and I received no reply or further demands for money.

After asking/searching for advice on this matter, I found information
that GoBaddy considers ANY business email as spam, unless it's
solicited by the recipient. So link exchange request emails could
cost you big bucks.

Needless to say, I've been letting my domains near-expire(no rush
since I don't spam), and moving them over to 1and1. They are cheaper
also.

Yes they are VERY anti-spam. This is a good thing. Wish more registers were
like them.

Link Exchange emails ARE spam. Did the person you sent it to request it? No?
Then its spam.

So you move from a good register thats anti-spam to a spamming

I didn't spam. I don't request link exchanges. I was accused of
spamming, and HAD to prove I wasn't. I had the proof, and was really
irritated Iwas declaire quilty before I could even address the
'complaint'. So not to face this confusion again, I will move my
domains to a CHEAPER registrar. Wasn't worth the hassle, and so as an
unhappy customer, I'm leaving.

OH, did I mention 1and1 is CHEAPER too?

Not that I don't like emailing people, I don't unless I have too, and
it's a legitamate business email. Customer support, Account Changes,
sign-up and payment comfirmation. Lots of email, no unsolicited
commercial emails though. I guess that could be considered not liking
to email people. To a spammer maybe?

And say I was a customer and you tried to email me an Account Changes email
or maybe an email to finish signup on our site. I wouldnt get it if you host
with 1and1 because they are blocked here.

Timely response by their support, no hickups.

You do have to pay attention when you register a domain
with them though. You're offered a lot of extras.
Also, the name you fill in when ordering has to be _exactly_
the same as on your credit card (down to the dots and
spaces).

Good domain registrar.
Bad web host (although pretty cheap).

The domain resistration is good because thats what they started out
doing, you get a full set of tools to manage the domain name.

The hosting is horrible, with a hack-job of a control panal to manage
your service, manual activation of the hosting account after you signed
up, and slow performance.

What's your definition of cheap. I mean, anyone who is running a
commerical site, loosing a sale now and then do to bad hosting, would
consider it very expensive even for free.

Well btw, thank you for sharing your options, just helps us all make
better informed decisions.

GoDaddy typically has the cheapest domain costs - which makes them #1 to me,
I use them personally and send a great deal of my clients their way because
of the ease of use and obviously costs associated with it. As far as
hosting, no - unfortunately this is where GoDaddy falls short - there system
is not very user friendly and typically I've not heard anything good about
it... I've never used it though. If you're looking for a host, check out
http://www.kenniko.com - we're having a sale right now (through 02.01.2005)
and you can have 100% control over your site. I won't bore you with the
details here, but if you want to know more - check out the site - there is a
link on the home page for e-mail... if you've got questions just shoot me a
line from there and I will reply promptly!

Best Wishes in Your Search -

GOOD POINT --- Up-time means profits... Down-time means losses... I've not
heard much good about GoDaddy hosting - although the Registrar functions
(and rate) are unbeatable --- believe me I've searched!

I also use Godaddy for domain name registration. Once you
get used to the sign up procedure, they're great.

First, it is always a good idea to have your domain name
registration and your webhosting at different companies.

That way, when the hosting company collapses, you don't
have the added headache of having to change dn registration
(CRUCIAL when the webhosting company no longer
answers your e-mails).

I find it to be a very safe feeling to have my domain names
and websites in two different places.
