Author What's the Difference Between Tables and DIV Tags?

I've been writing web pages for a while, but this is the first time I've really started getting into DTD standards. So, as you might image, in working with XHTML Strict 1.0 I've been doing a lot with CSS markup. There seems to be two camps here, though: one for those who love tables and another for those who love DIV tags. What's the difference? And if there is a difference, which one is better?

Thanks so much,
The Lion.

div tags can be modeled totally by CSS markup while tables have some properties itself that don't match the XHTML Strict 1.0 which requires structure and appearence separated.
