OT: How to Spellcheck Outlook Express?
|

| Hi,
I used to have MS Office which would spellcheck my emails in Outlook
Express. Now I use Open Office, I was wondering the best way to
spellcheck my emails.
Any ideas?

Sorry, I dont think I was very clear.
I would like to know how to spellcheck my emails. I use Outlook

Is this my best route?

Have you considered a modern email client yet, that already has a
built-in spell checker?

The spellcheck option is only available if you install a MS based
Office product. I dont want to install MS Office, hence the issue.

Yes, I have tried that before (1.5) I think but it was very buggy for
me, and missed some features I used in OE. Maybe its time to try
again.
When you reply in TB is it possible now that the existing window is
re-used rather than opening a new one?

I've been using it since Version 0.2 ... and would say that it was not
as buggy (even then) than OE6. Unless you are talking about available
features and how they work, rather than real bugs.

It opens a Compose window. Did you want to type in the reading pane
(normally the lower right)? OE calls it the Preview Pane, and I'd
recommend you don't use that (View > Layout > uncheck Show Preview
Pane), as it is the same as opening the mail, perhaps mail you would
rather delete, like spam. Or mail with malicious JavaScript embedded in
it.

Just had a look at 2.0.4 - looks much improved from when I used it
last. And yes, you are right, when I said bugs I think I did mean
lacking in features, I dont remember it crashing much.
The one I do remember was when I had a separate email window open, I
would press reply, but then a new window would pop-up instead of
reusing the existing one. (I dont use preview pane)
I'll try it out on my spare machine and see how it goes. The lack of a
free MS spellcheck for OE is putting me off using that anymore. That
and the regular patches!

Mine is sitting here comfortably managing thirteen email addresses, and
over three years worth of mail. (Some day I really should clean house.)
I don't remember it ever crashing on this computer, now 1.5 years old.

Ah, I'll bet you were (in Tbird) double-clicking on each email and
reading it in a new window, rather than just reading in the lower pane.
Selecting Reply does open a Compose window in either case.
It isn't a security risk like some versions of OE to read mail in
Tbird's version of the preview pane.
Check the options for stuff like not opening graphics on web sites and
so forth. Heh, read (and write) in Plain Text only, and there are zero
problems.

Everyone (well, most everyone) patches. That's why you have 2.0.0.4, up
from .3 <g> It handles its own updating, too.
