Author Good simple, preferably free, web authoring software?

I'm in the midst of building a website for a nonprofit club I'm in. The
club is rather active, so I won't have time to keep the site updated all
by myself.

I need to find some decent, cheap (preferably free) software for the
other budding web authors, so they can keep their pieces of the site up.
This is a horse-oriented group, so definitely not technical types.

Any suggestions on software I can suggest they use? Ideally, it should
be free, or at least less than $100 (US).

Thanks!

HTML Kit.

It's not a WYSIWYG package as such and comes with decent plugins such as
HTML Tidy. Clean enough for the expert, and simple enough for a novice -
provided they are prepared to look at some actual HTML(!).

If you are providing template pages for them to work from, there shouldn't
be a problem. Even horsey people can learn to use <h1> & <p>.

NVU is ok, but it has no templateing system built-in which can make it
a pane for newbies and you need to know what your doing with it. A lot
like DW.
NVU is also no-longer in development and is being replaced by
Composer2. But there is an unofficial bug fix for NVU called KompoZer
you can find it at:
http://www.kompozer.net
I might also be able to help you out through my website.

Chad, thanks. I've already built the design - tho I probably need to
tweak it some - I just need to provide a tool for the secretary at least
to add stuff to it.

I thought about NVU but couldn't get it to do what I wanted when I
fiddled with it.

I need something with the simplicity of building Word docs, without the
horrible code that Word does.

I really need a WYSIWYG. Sure, horsey people can learn html (I'm
horsey!) but they have to *want* to and have the time. This one
doesn't. I'll have a look at HTML Kit for myself tho :)

jmc,
Look arround for a product called a CMS. (Content Management System). They
are designed to allow non-techys to manage content while leaving the rest of
the website alone.
