Author IE and CSS padding in divs

I'm new to CSS and I noticed that the code that puts padding inside
divs seems to work on FireFox but not on IE7. What do you guys do
about that? Do you put another div inside the div to make the space?

It probably works just as well on any IE, so long as the page was
written to put IE into "standards mode" rather than "quirks mode". A
very FAQ - search for it.

You may be surprised to learn that we don't.
