| Hi, I have a tricky problem: I need to verify if a web site was or not on
line in 2003. I mean, not the domain, I already know the domain was active
in that period. I need to check if in that domain there really was the web
site. What could I do for this aim? I have already cheked on many search
engines and www.archive.org.
Thank you for any suggestion.

| I hope this isn't a legal issue. I know I've had to use www.archive.org
for legal reasons; either to prove my copyrighted work was stolen
(design or content), or that a company was making false claims, etc.
I don't know of a better site than Archive.org's WayBack Machine:
http://www.archive.org/web/web.php
Other than that, you might be able to get a backup from the web site's
host at the time. They may require a fee to search their backups or a
warrant if they consider the material to be protected.
Depending on the amount of public info on the site or its popularity,
you might try using Google to search web sites and discussion groups
for mention of the site and/or links. You can find links to sites on
Google and Yahoo (often Yahoo is better) by typing the following into
the search field:
link:www.domainyourelookingfor.com
Let me know if you find something else ...

Unfortunately, it is just a legal issue. The problem is that the absence in
the WayBack Machine doesn't imply the web site was not online. On the other
hand, the presence of some traces could prove theory that it was online.

done, without win.
I am looking for some forensic test for that issue.
