Author Does Google penalize for using Babble Fish?

I have been using the AltaVista "Babble Fish" language translator on a
number of my clients pages. I'm just curious (paranoid) if Google might
penalize for having links to other search engines.

Is that a different service than AV's Babel Fish?

Nope, just my laziness showing through in not verifying spelling.

Gotcha. With it spelled "Babble" in both the Subject header and the
body, and *never* being spelled "Babel", I sort of ruled out that it was
just a typo.

For the record, if you care, here's where the name comes from. The first
paragraph is all you really need to get the connection with the
Alta Vista *translator*. :)

Don't you mean this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babel_fish

(The fish is, of course, named after the tower, but the translator is
named after the fish).

No, I meant what I linked: the *origin* of "babel" (as versus "babble")
in this context. I wasn't explaining "fish". He spelled "fish"
correctly. We can assume he knows what a fish is. ;)

Yes, that's an intermediary connection to "babel" and it brings in
"fish" (which was not contested).

Yes, I've read THHGTTG. :)

The name "Babel", you mean.

For the name "Babel Fish", the origin is discussed at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babelfish

Yes. Note how it appears right there in my post. Notice that it was
babel/babble I was discussing. Not fish/phish/fiche.

As was shown by someone else's link to that page, earlier.

You are aware, I presume, that "babble" is simply the modern English
spelling of "babelen", the Middle English verb derived from the name
"Babel"? So the OP may not have been quite as far off the point as it
looked. :-)

OF COURSE, which is why I pointed He Who Wrote "Babble" to the story of
Babel. :)

(I didn't know the OE/ME intermediaries in the etymology, which are less
important in the context of this thread than the original and the
current words.)

Try the Bible. You'll find the tower of Babel in the old Testament,
much more reliable than unmoderated public edited sources which are
for ever having deliberate misinformation posted in them.

So, in the thread on 403 errors you accused me of flaming you. Since I
didn't, I asked you to point to the flame. You didn't respond. Perhaps
you realized that nothing I posted to you was flamage and just ducked
out.
