Author Help troubleshooting a website

I am the admin for www.texasflyfishers.org. All of the club members
that are Comcast subscribers can not access our website. They get this
message.

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site
might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to
adjust your browser settings.

If you are a Comcast subscriber would you try to access the site and
let me know the result.

I have been in contact with Comcast and they deny blocking the site.
One of the support techs let slip the they were earlier. ( this has
been going on since the switch from road runner ) The Comcast members
can goto one of the proxy servers and get on from there.

The site is hosted by PeoplePC.
I will be in contact with the tech people here on Monday to see if
they are aware of this and if there is anything to be done from that
end.

If anyone has suggestions on solving this I would appreciate
hearing them. I'll be glad to furnish any additional information if
needed.

Thanks for any help you can provide here. And I need it. I have about
30 grumpy old men after my butt on this issue.

No problem here. And I diligently have as little as possible to do with
Comcast.
Neither does <http://validator.w3.org/> which says there are 16 errors
on your page.

Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at www.texasflyfishers.org.

* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of www.example.com

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy,
make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Works ok (sort of) from RoadRunner.

You do need to learn how to optimize images. Also, do not use HTML
height and width to resize; make the images the size you want first,
then put those pixel dimensions in the code.

Visit this page, and enter your URL:
http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/

"Total Size: 1053249 bytes" !!

Same for the rest of the pages. For example:
http://www.texasflyfishers.org/imag...0Cabo%20027.jpg

Size: 1,464.14 KB (1,499,282 bytes)
Specified Dimensions: 311px × 233px
Actual Dimensions: 2,016px × 1,512px

I would imagine not too many people using dialup visit these pages. :-(

Dave,

Can't locate the server here, either. nslookup doesn't find it either,
so it's something in the DNS.

The problem isn't just with Comcast.

texasflyfishers.org. 172800 IN NS ns1.ev1.net.
texasflyfishers.org. 172800 IN NS ns2.ev1.net.

Go XXXXX to ev1.net since it's their nameserver that is down, your records
are sitting on that machine that isn't answering.

Still not as bad as my submission to the most idiotic use of html image
dimensions contest:

http://www.hcbe.net/facilities/splost2012/mossy.html

Not surprising when you see:

http://www.hcbe.net/technology/webcontent.html

where his own picture is shrunk from 2272 x 1704 to 237 x 178.

Over eight hundred lines of code to make that little page; over six hundred
of it dhtml javascript bullshit. Unbelievable.

As others have observed, it is a DNS issue. Those who can load your site
just happen to have the name cached somewhere; the primary name server
<ns1.ev1.net> is not just down, it is gone.
The domain <ev1.net> has completely disappeared from the Internet. Since
<ev1.net> is run by Earthlink, something really bad must have happened.

Yikes! 8,531.79 KB (8,736,558 bytes) for that "Aerial" photo!

No, the hcbe.net.

That site has tonnes of JavaScript. Java is something else again.
