| Hello,
I use Web Page Maker software to build my website. I love this product, it
works great, yet I feel I need something more powerful, especially regarding
tables. Can you please tell me what you recommend. Thanks.

Learn to code by hand. The are a number of good text editors that you
can use. I like UltraEdit.

I'm going to throw a good word in for the Crimson Editor.

Yes, I agree Crimson editor is good.
But for WYSIWYG editors, go for KompoZer, http://kompozer.net

I've not personally come across Web Page Maker, so don't know what its
strengths and weaknesses are. NVU seems popular (free), I use Expression Web
(Micro$oft), both are wysiwyg tools. To be honest a lot depends on your
budget and how much time you are willing to invest to learn a new product.

NVU is no longer in development. Kompozer is the new version.

Agreed! Coding by hand gives you full power over everything instead of being
at the mercy of whatever assumptions were made by the software designer for
Web Page Maker (or whatever).
I've used a variety of tools and am currently using Html-Kit, which I'm
finding quite satisfactory. I'm especially enjoying the ability to
modularize things with the includeHTML plugin which gives me an HTML
preprocessor.

I'll third that. Code by hand. I have never in over ten years found a
WYSIWYG editor that was any good.

flame me all you like but I use Dreamweaver cs3. I can keep tight control
over the code and it has lots of neat little features. Just stay away from
the absolute positioning feature in wysywg mode!
