Author dynamic subdomains

I'm not sure if this is possible or not (new to apache).

Anyway, I would like my new users to have their own sub-domain.

Bob would get: http://bob.example.com

However, I would like "bob" to map to: http://example.com/users/bob

So, http://bob.example.com would actually point to http://example.com/
users/bob

Is this possible with .htaccess? What do I need to ask from my host?
(pair.com)

Thanks for any help!

With mod_rewrite, yes. I am quite sure this example is in the mod_rewrite
documentation.
