Author website review

Hi,

I would appreciate a review of this site:

http://forwardingtree.com

Is it self-explanatory? Would you use it? Are there any issues with
copyright? Are there any issues with putting advertising on it?

Sample forwarding links:

Strike One: "JavaScript is required for this site. "
Not a very impressive main page, a single line of text.

Strike Two: http://forwardingtree.com/gwt.js
579 lines of JavaScript copyrighted by Google.

Strike Three: <iframe id="__gwt_historyFrame"
style="width:0;height:0;border:0"></iframe>

> Is it self-explanatory?

Not to someone who has JavaScript disabled, unavailable, or stripped by
their corporate firewall.

It was written using Google's gwt:

http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/

It's really an amazing toolkit that will probably result in a huge
number of ajax apps. I'm very impressed with it so far.

As for the JavaScript requirement, I was under the impression that ajax
apps are pretty standard nowadays. Don't most people have javascript
enabled?

I got an error popup:

While attempting to load module "com.forwardingtree.ForwardingTree",
property "user.agent" was set to the unexpected value "unknown".

Allowed values: gecko,gecko1_8,ie6,opera,safari

If I clear the error, the screen is just blank. If you're going to use
som kind of UA detection, it needs to have a default option which
actually attempts to display the page, rather than not bothering - I
can assure you that my browser is perfectly capable of rendering AJAX
pages, and does so on other sites with no problems.

You have neglected (as do many large sites) to specify a default
background colour.

Not really, but I am quite dense.

It's a handy (sic) way of spamming a link, a bit like a FFA directory.

>Are there any issues with copyright?

Not really. This is the web, everyone rips off everybody else <g>

>Are there any issues with putting advertising on it?

Only moral, but this is the web <g>

Yes of course they do. There are billions of web users, don't worry
about a handful of people with javascript disabled.

Try clicking the "Why?" button.

Could you elaborate on this? In what sense is this spamming?

Don't argue. You asked a question, accept the answer. Realise that you
*may* be wrong (see a previous thread in which I asked what people
disliked about my site).

There is no point in asking for reviews if all you really want is an
ego massage.
