Author Cheap webhost with FTP

I am looking for a CHEAP webhost to host a small site (under 30k
pages), that would have FTP access. I would also like to find a host
where customer service people are have at least a minimal amount of
brains (like they know what is 'quota' or 'symbolic link', as an
example). Thanks.

Thanks. I just paid this guy $12 via paypal, but his cart is broken
and thusly my registration is kind of like an orphan, paid but not set
up. I created a ticket, I hope that he corrects this.

I hit send :-)

http://www.freehostinn.com/. Can't get cheaper than free. It's operated by
Hostgator, so at least there's a real company with real people behind it.

Looks like his emails to me were lost somewhere. I chatted with him
using messenger and we resolved all problems.

I'm real disappointed with the host for http://www.dc-pc.org; all I
wanted was a simple FTP access and control over my webspace like it was
a directory on another drive.

What I got at http://www.dc-pc.org was a directory cluttered up with
folders. One which had bandwidth and hit count usage made some sense,
but the rest, damnifino. Then too, under the site
http://www.dc-pc.org/dc-pc.org which apparently is where I'm spozed to
put my files. "index.htm" wont do, it hasta be "index.html" note the
last "l". and if there's an <A
HREF="http://www.dc-pc.org/anatolia/anatolia.html", it needs the final
"l", but if that document calls another within the same directory, such
as anatchap1.htm, then the 3 letter suffix will do.

The server does not seem to be able to keep track of where it is in the
path. "Anatolia" is an ebook, but each page is a screenshot so it looks
like the facing pages of an open book. pages named "anat001.gif",
anat002.gif, anat00n.gif... and with my ftp access, I can see all the
"n.gif" are there in the subdirectory, but the server cant seem to find
all of them, quite often a 'chapter' will have pages missing. Even when
there's way less then 256 "page.gif" in a subdirectory.

Then too, "support" is only via some ticket system where I havta logon
and then scroll down thru all the msgs. WTF? they got my email address,
to which they send me notices about their responses. Why not just send
the response? Is that toooooo simple?

And when I do logon to add files to the website, I could go out for
coffee before the server gives me the directory, or asks if I want to
replace some previous "index.html" or whatever. I mean, these files are
only a few k, and the .gifs run 40-50k. And what's with the confusing
redundancy of http://www.dc-pc.org/dc-pc.org ???

There are a lotta files, adding up to maybe 100 meg, but its all simple
schitt. No frames, no VPN, no order menus, no forums, just the
presentation of various sets of screenshots of text that'd be a huge
pain to lay out in html.

I dont wanna mess with a "control panel". All I want is plain vanilla
ftp access so I have some sense I know whats going on. It aint heavy
traffic or a lotta webspace, so it shouldnt cost much.

I don't give a rats XXX what it says in the TOS or on their home page. They
put ads on your pages.

My code:
<body>
<div id="head">
<img src="images/freecat.jpg" width="500" height="395" alt="cat" />
</div>
</body>

Go look at how much it grew.
