I have developed a new search site with access to major search engines
and would like some comments:

The main idea is to have the best search for each category available.
Google for web search, MSN (Live) for image search, AOL Video for video
search and so on. In addition to that the other leading search engines
are available through the drop down menu.

I am not sure yet how useful this is in practice, but I have a feeling
that it may have some potential.

That's not clear on the site I was about to ask "What's the point?" only
Brian beat me to it.

Also, since when did Amazon become a search engine?

I should have used the term "search sites" instead of search engines.
Amazon has a shopping search function, but is not exactly a search
engine.

Most people, including myself, probably use mostly only one search
engine. But I found that when searching for things like audio and video
I wanted to have access to several sites from the same page.

But only within Amazon surely?

Yes, but Amazon is a massive shopping site. Even if ranking is not
everything, it is an important measurement of popularity (clicking the
rank tab will show an exponential graph with site ranking position):

Yes, I know that but I just find it strange to see a specific shopping site
included in a generic search engine. Would give me the impresssion that the
site is an affilliate of that shopping site.

I see what you mean. For example having Froogle as the default choice
would have been more in line with the rest of the search options.
However, according to my ranking system, Amazon is the first choice.
