How to get italic or bold on Google Group

| Is there a way to use simple formatting (underline, bold, italics) for
a topic/message on Google Groups?

Nope.
But the messages may have formatting in some people's newsreaders.
Use *bold*, /italic/ and _underlined_, and some people will see the
formatting, while many others just recognize what is intended.
